Keep your arms on the bench and force your legs through them so they're not tempted to go to the side. Also launch yourself like you're diving, don't worry if this seems scary, it always is first time |

lol, long post, but anyway, don't be scared its mostly a mental block thing. Its mentally hard to toss yourself forward like that but physically easy. The same thing is true with the Backflip. Make sure you tuck your legs and keep your arms firmly on the bench,(keep your arms straight) and make sure you don't take one arm off and go to the side like this
...........................................................................................
......o/__/...........................................................____.o__/....
...__/___\__......................................................|......|./....\....
........................... DONT DO THIS PATRICK............................
1) going sideways 2)hitting your head on the edge of the bench _________________

The thing that makes it easy is once you understand that you aren't just swinging your legs through your arms, but you are diving forward, head first and legs high, and then you plant your arms at the end of the object at an angle, and the forward momentum of your dive launches you upwards (in the same way as when a ball travelling horiztonally hits a diagonal surface it goes upwards... that's what you have to do with your arms). And then when you've launched yourself clear your arms off the table and just keep your legs tucked and be confident.
Get something soft to practice it on with something soft to land on on the other side so that you aren't afraid of catching your feet when you dive forwards... once you have got over the fear it's easy. _________________

Ok. Theo's diagrams are funny. Keep doing long-winded unhelpful syuff like that, it really is funny. ... Well thanks for the rest of the advice, anyway. James actually posted the original message by me, so don't worry. _________________ Face plant |

What do you mean don't worry? Just because I posted it doesn't mean you can do a kong vault... you still need help with it so you can do it! _________________

Yeah, that's true... you managed to do it on the hill at the back of the hardcourt, so if you weren't afraid you could probably do it over a bench or something. _________________

Its true, like the David Belle bail movie clip, most of the problem is in your head, you have to try and get over the mental block which prevents you from doing it properly. Though mental barriers are often the hardest to overcome. For example I find it hard to summon the courage to attempt a backflip because I can't see where I'm throwing my self, but I could quite comfortably jump off a one or two story building even though that has much greater risks. _________________
