Friday, February 4 2005
Over the next month or so there will be a couple of interesting releases via Steam, in addition to the upcoming Counter-Strike map cs_compound.
First, we'll be releasing an update to Half-Life 2: Deathmatch that will include the Slam, Stunstick, and the Crowbar. We're not ready to release the contest winning maps just yet, but we will be releasing a new map we've built at Valve to tide people over while we sort out the contest winners. There will also be a release to Counter-Strike: Source around the same time that will address a few minor issues.
One feature that we'll be adding to the Source engine in the coming months is high dynamic range lighting. To showcase this we've taken a part of the Highway 17 chapter of Half-Life 2 and worked it into a single level that incorporates HDR along with some new gameplay. We're calling this short level "The Lost Coast," and it will be made available free of charge to Half-Life 2 customers that meet a specific set of high end hardware requirements. We'll be publishing those requirements soon.

I have broadband, so I barely noticed the update, all it meant was that a small fragment of my bandwidth was used up, not that msn needs that much anyway. I think it is good that there are updates, but they will eventually stop, when they ditch the game for HL3 and other possible games that would reduce demand for HL2. _________________ Forge this signature... |

Yeah the updates are great. When cs_compound comes out (soon), that will be three maps added to Counter-Strike Source. And all of the fixes that they release. The annoying thing about most online games is that there are always cheaters, but because of Steam they can keep stopping the cheaters .
And I feel sorry for 56k people like DarkMonkey who have to wait for hours for the updates to happen
PS. Welcome to the forums gmpiglet _________________

the updates are good but even though the majority of the people have broadband many also only have 56k so Iguess its not all good news for everyone. Anyway welcome to the forums _________________ Screw you suckers!!!! |

I hope the next update fixes the damn hitboxes in css, they're really annoying, you have no idea where to shoot! _________________ Moderator, Developer, Free Running newbie |

I would also like to see:
-More player models (they promised this earlier)
-Better hostages, like the ones in CSCZ. They were great - e.g. if there were no terrorists nearby and you were trying to rescue them they would wave to you and say "Psst. Over here", and stuff like that. _________________

Hitboxes are the boxes that go round with the players that you shoot at. You aren't actually shooting the player model you are shooting the hitboxes, and at the moment thre is a problem where they sometimes lag behind the player, so you have to shoot behind to hit.
And Michaelz for textures and maps just get custom ones. If someone is good they can make textures and maps just as good as Valves' _________________
