E3, the biggest game event of the year is starting tomorrow! There's already been loads of pre-show media released to certain places, which is available to the public

Here are some of the highlights:

Playstation 3 Revealed

The PlayStation 3 (official name) was revealed:

More pictures (Console / Ports / Console front on / Colours available / Console / Controller)

Its set for release in spring 2006, but a price has not yet been set. The console will read Blu-ray discs, which store 6x as much data as current DVDs! It will feature backward compatability all the way back to the PS1, and it will contain a removable HDD (similar to the Xbox 360).

More info on XBox 360

Controller: 2.4GHz Wireless
Processor: Custom IBM PowerPC CPU
Graphics Processor: Custom ATI Processor
System Memory: 512MB, 700MHz DDR
Resolution: 480p, 480i, 720p, 1080i
Integrated Communications: 802.11 A/B/G Wi-Fi
Built-in Features: Stands Vertically or Horizontally, Interchangable Face Plates

Nintendo Revolution

-- Backward compatibility: The new console plays all games from the
current Nintendo GameCube(TM) generation. But there's more ...

-- The secret weapon: The console also will have downloadable access to
20 years of fan-favorite titles originally released for
Nintendo(R) 64, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System(R) (SNES) and
even the Nintendo Entertainment System(R) (NES).

Wireless freedom: A number of Wi-Fi-enabled launch titles are in
development that will employ Nintendo's newly announced wireless
gaming service, Nintendo(R) Wi-Fi Connection. A worldwide network of
Nintendo players can gather to compete in a comfortable, inviting
environment.

Gameboy Micro Announced

Nintendo also revealed a new edition of its Game Boy Advance handheld. The Game Boy Micro shrinks the already diminutive Game Boy Advance down further, and still retains the functions of the Game Boy Advance SP. The unit is slightly larger than an iPod mini at four inches wide, two inches tall, and .7 inches deep, and can fit easily into gamer's back pockets.

The unit, which weighs a mere 2.8 ounces, will play all Game Boy Advance games and will have customizable faceplates. However, there are no new multimedia functions to speak of. As Fils-Aime put it, the Micro is "a hip new way to show off your portable passion." The Micro will be released this fall.

hey, the ps3 actually looks pretty good, i'm not sure about the controller though. This console war is going to be very interesting, i dont believe that Sony will have the huge market share it has enjoyed up until now. From recent pictures of the Ninetndo Revolution, it looks as though it stands a chance, and will probably succeed more than whoever comes second place in the war between sony and microsoft. Nintendo are going for something different this time, and it will probably do better. They're offering a lot of their back catalogue up for download as well, so you can play all the zeldas/marios/donkey kongs on onling multiplayer. Im not sure if they can, but if they can still publish games by rare, then you could be playing perfect dark multplayer over the internet for a fraction of buying the new perfect dark zero. Even said, PS3 has a very impressive linup of games, and the XBOX360 has rare, who will come into this generation i think, and will make a difference, for me anyway. I'm a rare fanboy and proud Very Happy its the only reason i bought an original xbox.

If aethetics have anything to do with it, the PS3 or XBOX360 will own Nintendo's ass. They always seem to have poor designs - contrary to what others think, the PS2 is the best design, and Nintendo will probably fail on their next console, too.

I think nitendo will change everything about there image, most of there games are for childeren, so i think that nitendo should split up in 2 sections if they want to Challenge the new Xbox and the P3. One section for more adult games(like Halo) and one for childeren (like mario)

The design is not everything, you might wanna have something that looks cool in your room but when it comes down to the gameplay and graphics its a different story. Revolution hasn't really had much detail yet so we can't judge it at this moment however apparently nintendo has spent a great deal of time trying their best to come up with loads of unique features which should be interesting.

My friend's watching the live Nintendo conference now (I think), because he's registed to Gamestop. Maybe I should have registered for just 1 month so I could see all the E3 stuff Razz.

I can se that Nintendo are changing their image drastically for the next generation of consoles, I mean just look at how the Revolution is designed. It's not a stereotypical "kiddie" console.

I disliked the look of the Revolution at first, but the more I look at it the more I like it. Let's hope that the controllers look just as good when they release images of them.

geez that is not possible.....omfg noway is that real....

http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/action/killzone2/media.html?gcst=killzone2_ot_ps3_051605.asx

Well its a gameplay (apparently) video for killzone 2 for the ps3 and I just cant believe that is actually gameplay graphics. It makes HL2 look s*** and doom 3 look old.

Well whether its real or not I don not know but I got a feeling that ps3 are bluffing. Also the player movemnt looks kinda iffy. How the hell can they produce this within 6months after HL2 and only a few months releasing killzone?

Maybe because this engine is about 3 years ahead of Half-Life 2's. Also, games have to be toned down slightly on the PC to allow for lower-end machines, but seeing as all consoles are the same (and very powerful) they can take games to their full extent. The PS3 isn't coming out for another year, and by then the technology will have got a lot better.

And, this isn't 6 months after the release of HL2. Half-Life 2's engine was practically completed on September 30th 2003, and Killzone 2 isn't coming out until Spring 2006.

Well it actually says that it was played on the ps3 not the pc therefore I do not belive that the ps3 is even more powerful than my pc due to the fact that the system specs for it arent that high.

btw i swear killzone is out unless you mean killzone 2.

My friend described the PS3 controller to me this morning:

But that looks amazing.

I've already made up my mind that I will be going next year. Screw school (I can skip for 3 days...). I'll be 18 and I'll have $475 by this time next year. And by that time I will have produced a (sellable) computer game (I better have if I want to go). I'm pretty sure that this makes me eligible...
