Think about it, freeware, people are gonna be more interested in the game, therefore creating a bigger fanbase and therefore a bigger reputation.

Now, think about making people pay for the game. People are going to be turned off by the price and the fact that it's an unknown developer and you keep the small fanbase and small reputation. Little to no profit.

BUT go freeware, then give extra features to those who pay. e.g. extra levels, "expansions." Large fanbase, small fee, larger profit.

You know it makes sense.

extra levels don't really work for an adventure game.. unless you mean like a demo, where they get 1 level for free, then pay for the full game, which is what we were planning Razz.

No really, there are some people who would buy it for £5 or £10, and then after a while it may go freeware...

Kinda what you said in your first sentence would work too I guess. But look at this:

xgenstudios

14000 users on their boards

They make free games then sell CDs with extra features. Do the math (yes I know all 14000 won't buy the CDs).

I don't know what to think, but you will probably get more advertising intrest if it is free, therefore more people playing it...

Well, you can have a lot of people playing the demo (it can be a pretty long demo), and then the full version costs £10

People are more interested in freeware than a free demo.

I agree with the free demo and the £10 full version. Makes sense to me, Also i think if it was sold in shops and online it will get a bigger fanbase. As i think the game being in shops will gain more people buying it than just online. Making it freeware and having an extras cd etc would be fun but im sure less people would buy it due to them having a free game.

That's true. How are we going to get advertising if we have no money to pay for it? But if the game is in shops, people will see it, and if it sells we can pay to advertise.

Advertising? For what exactly?

Online freebies "sell" themselves. Then, when you have a large fanbase you sell extra CDs or something.

Distribution, packaging, etc costs money too and if you don't break even with your sales you're worse off than before.
