The [DOTA] Counter-Strike Source Server is now up at:

65.254.62.218:27015

It's a 28 player limit, and a pretty good ping now. This is the current map cycle:

It has MANI Admin Mod installed, so map votes and stuff work, and I have admin powers Twisted Evil

If there's a map you want on it, just ask.

Now let's hope it becomes popular, then put ads on it to link them to the site and get them hooked on DOTA :p

I had a surf map, but I had the bot_quota set to 2 (becuase otherwise no one would join in the server was empty), so it tried to create a nav file for the map, and practically crashed the server because the surf maps are so big or something. If I can get nav files for the surf maps i'll put them on.

hmm when i went on my ping was pretty large, is the server based in england or where the guy you bought it from is from? and it took me ages to download maps from the server, that might be to do with the ping though.

and James bots only join when people join a team so it still looks empty if there are no human players Razz

Maybe you could give the bots other names or [DOTA] tags so it looks as if they are real players. OF course if people look at their ping they'll know but if they look at it real fast they'll think they're playing against real players

I think the best way to do it would to have 3 or 4 real DOTA people in the server, so more people start joining, and when we get about 8 other people in the server (it could happen Razz) we could leave and hope it sustains itself.

But, I don't think it will with the current maps. I think the problem is a lot of people are bored with the maps that come with the game, and all custom maps take too long for people to download.

I'm currently making a few small maps that should be really quick to download, and may be fun to play Razz . I looked on our server, and he_tennis is only 66kb, which would be great for people wanting to download it. Only problem is that the grenades don't appear properly in the map (and it has no lighting). So I'm making some nicer versions of those sorts of maps, and we'll see if that helps attract people to the server.

Hm, I agree to a certain extent, although unknown maps won't get people playing either, as they don't know that it's good. I think we need some good generic ones (aztec, assault, office) and then some not so well known ones, such as officemini, and, like you said, he_tennis. compound_finished is also a small and fun map, btw Razz

We can experiment with different things. For example, for a day we could try "24/7 Glassfloor KDR" or "24/7 Assault". Or we could try a map cycle of small map (game size and file size) so that it doesn't take too long for people to download.

as you said James i think ppl are bored with the maps that come with the game and the more famous custom maps and pplare looking for alternative gaming styles e.g the surfing crzer being born, i think it would be a goodidea to put a couple of glass maps and things like that such as, glassfloor_kdr and break_floor which many ppl know and love and already have downloadedand are quite small simple maps but are loved by many so i thinkthats the way to go, i kinda agree with you about having no surf maps, although i love them and are probably my fave maps at the moment they arnt reaklly to do with tactics about shooting and moving, there really for specific players styles and wouldnty help our clan perfect its technique.

sorry for the essay Embarassed
